Description

Join Jordana Wright for an intensive, hands-on workshop to tackle one of the most complicated landscape settings — woods. Between the classroom lecture and a four-hour on-location shoot, students will learn to create beautiful, intentional images in a woodland setting.

Topics to be covered include:

●  Working around high contrast, dappled light

●  Choosing the best lenses for woodland photography

●  Creating fairy-tale images using long exposure techniques

●  Finding the details

●  Intentional composition to provide a sense of place

Recommended Gear:

●  Tripod

●  Neutral Density filter(s)

●  Wide-angle lens (24mm or wider)

●  Lens capable of shooting in the 100-200mm range or greater

●  Cable release

Sunrise and Morning Light at Messenger Woods Nature Preserve, Homer Glen, IL April 25, 4-6 pm, April 26, 6-10 am​:
With 441 acres containing hardwood forests, wildflowers, prairies, and wetlands, Messenger Woods Nature Preserve is a local gem for nature and landscape photographers. Shoot the sunrise and early morning light as it fills this vast and quiet forest.

Afternoon Light and Sunset at Kankakee River State Park, Bourbonnais, IL
May 30, 4-6 pm, May 31, 4-8 pm​:
Limestone canyons, waterfalls, deep woods, and a bright green suspension bridge provide plenty of photographic opportunities just 90 minutes away from Chicago. Photograph the golden afternoon light and stay to shoot the sunset along the Kankakee River.

Sunrise and Morning Light in the Allison Woods (The River Trail Nature Center), Northbrook, IL
August 8, 4-6 pm, August 9, 6-10 am​:
Explore a forest preserve right in Chicago’s backyard. With large trail-side groves, Des Plaines River access and boardwalks leading across the Des Plaines floodplains, there will be countless opportunities to capture the early morning ambiance and serenity of this local preserve.
